Bright Art Gallery & Cultural Centre

The Bright Art Gallery is situated in Mountbatten Ave, just a short walk from the town centre. The recently renovated creative space three light filled galleries and a workshop. The Gallery has disabled access and a lift to the upstairs area. The Gallery offers four main exhibitions every year, and also hosts musical events, talks and art workshops ranging from pastels to mosaics. It also hosts the Bright School exhibition each year.

The premier event of the year is the annual Autumn Art Show. It showcases paintings from around Australia and attracts over 400 entries. The paintings compete for prizes in each category or medium used, such as pastel, oil or watercolour. The overall winner receives the Grand Prize. This is an acquisitive award and the winning painting becomes part of the Gallery’s extensive permanent collection.

The Winter exhibition features the work of the Alpine Artists. It also exhibits paintings from the permanent collection and showcases the Buckland Screens painted by Tom Lawler. It tells the story of the infamous Buckland Riots of 1857. The Winter Exhibition runs during the July School Holidays.

The Spring exhibition runs from late September to early November. It traditionally offers a solo exhibition or works from a significant personal collection. This is accompanied by a display of works by Alpine Artists.

The Summer exhibition runs from late November to the Australia Day weekend. It showcases a wide range of art forms including paintings, photography, ceramics and woodcraft. All items are offered for sale. This exhibition has recently widened to include Youth entries and prizes, This has encouraged young local artists to exhibit their work at the Gallery, thus attracting a new generation of emerging artists.
